Sri Lanka was once a very successful nation in cricket but in the past few years, they lost their stance of being a great team in the game. But in the past few series especially in the latter half of the 2024-year, Sri Lanka is on the rise. In this article, we will tell you everything about Sri Lanka’s success in the past few months and how they are on the rise.

One-time ODI World Cup winner and one-time T20 World Cup winner, Sri Lanka is one of the most successful teams in the world. Sri Lanka has given many legendary players in the world. There was a time when Sri Lanka used to dominate in World cricket. Players like Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardene, Lasith Malinga, Muttiah Muralitharan, etc are legends of the game today.

But things took a turn in the past few years, Sri Lanka could not survive its transition phase where experienced players were leaving and young ones were coming.

They struggled in this transition phase which lasted for around 7 to 6 years. They got down in the ICC rankings, they were no longer considered favourites in any ICC tournaments. Things became worse when they started playing qualifiers of the ICC tournaments. There were no individual big stars in the team.

Teams started to see Sri Lanka as a weak team and also as a confirmed two points in ICC tournaments. But after the conclusion of the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Sri Lankan board appointed former legendary player, Sanath Jayasuriya as head coach of the team.
