Sir Vivian Richards (Full name – Sir Isaac Vivian Alexander Richards) was born on 7 March 1952 (Happy Birthday Viv Richards) in Saint John’s Antigua and Barbuda to Antigua’s leading fast bowler – Malcom Richards, is a West Indian cricketer who is regarded as one of the greatest batsman of all time.
Richard followed his father’s profession as a cricketer along with his two brothers – Mervyn Richards and Donald Richards. But the world remembered Vivian only.
In 1974, at the age of 22, Richards made his international test debut for West Indies. He played a total of 121 test matches in his career till 1993, but made himself one of the most consistent batsman of all time. He used to not wear the helmet, even when the fast bowlers dominated in that era.
As he scored 8540 runs and an average of more than 50 runs per innings, Richards holds a record of 24 centuries with that leading West Indies as a captain from 1985 to 1991. With being a batsman, he was also an ‘off spin’ bowler who took 32 wickets in all test competitions. Not only this, he scored 6721 runs in 187 matches in ODIs. Which includes 11 centuries and 45 half-centuries.
He was so famous with his incredible batting that he was given the title of ‘Sir’ that the world used to set as a prefix before his name. Just like as Don Bradman, he was fantastic in his whole test career which made him the best batsman in Caribbean region.
