In the 1975 World Cup, India was playing against England. It was the starting days of the ODI format when most of the players were not aware of the right approach to build the innings in the new format. Former legendary batter of Indian cricket, Sunil Gavaskar played the slowest innings of ODI format in that match. India was chasing 335 in that match. Gavaskar made 36 runs off 174 balls. His strike rate in that match was 2.94. India lost that match by 202 runs.
Test
In 1999 slowest innings of the test format was played by New Zealand’s Geoff Allott who gave his wicket after making no run and played 77 balls in that innings. The match was played between South Africa and New Zealand in 1999. Rahul Dravid’s 12 off 96 against England in 2007 and Cheteshwar Pujara’s 11 off 81 balls are also two of the slowest innings in test format.
T20
T20 cricket was made to play cricket at a much higher pace than that of tests and ODIs. A very famous name from the cricket world played the slowest-ever innings in the shortest format of the game. it was Indian legend MS Dhoni who played the slowest innings of T20 format. In 2008 in a T20 match against Australia, Dhoni made 9 runs off 27 balls with a strike rate of 33 which was the slowest innings in T20 format. It seems quite shocking to see a player like MS Dhoni on this list.
