Team India and Afghanistan are out of the Asia Cup after Pakistan’s victory over Afghanistan. India came as favourites in this tournament but they lost back-to-back matches in the Super 4 stage. In this article, we will see what were the possible reasons for team India’s struggle in the super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2022.
- First and most important reason was India’s bowling and especially fast bowling. When the squad of the Asia Cup was announced all the cricket experts and critics were criticizing team India for their selection in the bowling department. Indian selectors left players like Mohammad Shami out of the squad. Deepak Chahar was also named in the stand-by players. Indian fast bowling department was looking very weak in absence of experienced players.
- Second reason is not having a fixed and perfect playing 11. We have seen this thing in the past when team India changed their combination several times. We have seen them changing the original positions of the players and mixing in the batting order. In this tournament also India could not find their perfect 11. They tried DK then Pant. They left DK out and included Deepak Hooda. India was lacking one fast bowler and because of that, they have to play with one more extra spinner.
- Third reason is India’s struggle in the death overs. Especially in the super 4 matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, team India struggled in death overs in both batting and bowling department. India got a good start against Pakistan and they could have easily made 200+ with that start but they left at least 20 runs short in the end. The same thing happened in the Sri Lanka match where India lacked almost 20 runs in the end.
- India lacked badly in the finishing. The same thing happened with Indian bowlers when they lost control in the death overs and gave many runs in the end especially Bhuvneshwar Kumar because he was one of the many reasons for India’s loss in super 4. It hurts because you can never expect such things from a bowler like Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
