Punjab Kings highest target chased & lowest target defended in IPL

Punjab Kings (PBKS) hold two remarkable IPL records against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): the highest target successfully chased and the lowest target defended. These contrasting feats highlight PBKS’s unique place in IPL records, showcasing their ability to both chase down the highest targets and defend the lowest totals.

Highest Successful run chase in IPL history

Punjab Kings (PBKS) hold the record for the highest successful run chase in IPL history, achieved on April 26, 2024, against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. PBKS chased down a massive target of 262 runs in just 18.4 overs. Key performances included Jonny Bairstow’s unbeaten 108, Prabhsimran Singh’s quickfire 54, and Shashank Singh’s impactful 68*. This historic feat marked the first-ever successful chase of a 260-plus total in T20 cricket, setting a world record.

This match also saw a record-breaking 42 sixes hit across both innings, highlighting the dominance of batsmen under the Impact Player rule introduced in IPL 2024. The rule allowed teams to field an additional specialist batter during their batting innings, contributing to such high-scoring games.

Defend Lowest Total in IPL history

Punjab Kings (PBKS) achieved the remarkable feat of defending the lowest total in Indian Premier League (IPL) history during their match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 15, 2025. PBKS were bowled out for just 111 runs but managed to secure a 16-run victory, breaking the previous record held by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who defended 116 runs against Kings XI Punjab in 2009.

This historic defense was powered by Yuzvendra Chahal’s exceptional four-wicket haul and Marco Jansen’s three wickets. KKR, despite reaching 62/2 at one stage, collapsed to 95 all out in 15.1 overs, marking one of the most stunning turnarounds in IPL history.
