In the Indian Premier League (IPL), achieving a five-wicket haul is a significant milestone for bowlers, showcasing their ability to dominate the game. As of March 2025, only four players have accomplished the feat of taking two five-wicket hauls in IPL history:
Bhuvneshwar Kumar:
Known for his exceptional bowling skills, Kumar took his first five-for against Punjab Kings in 2017, with figures of 5/19. His second came in 2023 against Gujarat Titans, where he recorded 5/30, although his efforts were in vain as his team lost both matches.
Jasprit Bumrah:
A cornerstone of Mumbai Indians’ success, Bumrah achieved his first five-wicket haul in IPL 2022 against Kolkata Knight Riders with stunning figures of 5/10. He made history by securing his second five-for against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2024, finishing with figures of 5/21, making him the first player from Mumbai Indians to achieve two such hauls.
Jaydev Unadkat:
Unadkat’s two five-wicket hauls came while representing different teams. His first was for Delhi against RCB in 2013 (5/25), and the second was for Rising Pune Supergiant against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017 (5/30).
James Faulkner:
The Australian left-arm seamer took both of his five-wicket hauls in IPL 2013 while playing for Rajasthan Royals against Sunrisers Hyderabad, with figures of 5/20 and 5/16 in two separate matches.
These bowlers have not only showcased their talent but have also left an indelible mark on the league’s history by being part of an elite group that has achieved multiple five-wicket hauls in IPL matches.
