The sixth day of the 2023 World Cup was full of records. It was a doubleheader where England faced Bangladesh and won the game quite comfortably. In that match also Dawid Malan made a huge hundred. But it was the second match of the day that grabbed the highlight. So, in this article, we will tell you what made that second match interesting.
The second game of the day was between two Asian giants, Pakistan and Sri Lanka which turned out to be a batting display from both the teams. Pakistan chased down a huge target of 345 runs with the help of players like Abdullah Shafique who was making his debut in the World Cup and Mohammad Rizwan who we all know is a gem for Pakistan.
A very interesting record was made by batters in that match as it was for the first time when four hundreds were made in a World Cup match. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Kusal Mendis and Sadeera played beautifully and both made hundreds. Mendis made 122 off 77 balls, and Sadeera Samarawickrama made 108 off 89 balls. They both played their heart out but unfortunately, their centuries went into vain and they ended in a losing cause.
Pakistan chased down the target with the help of Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan who both batted well and Mohammad Rizwan is a gem for Pakistan as he was standing there till the end. Abdullah Shafique made 113 runs off 103 balls.
Mohammad Rizwan after wicketkeeping for 50 overs batted almost for 50 overs and was seen struggling with those cramps but he showed why he is a fighter and made 131* off 121 balls and also won the game for his country.
