Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have officially appointed Rishabh Pant as their captain for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. The announcement was made by the team’s principal owner, Sanjiv Goenka, on January 20, 2025. Pant, who was acquired for a record ₹27 crore during the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, becomes the fourth captain in LSG’s history, succeeding KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Krunal Pandya.
Rishabh Pant has previously captained the Delhi Capitals from 2021 to 2024, except for the 2023 season when he was sidelined due to injuries from a car accident. His leadership tenure with Delhi ended as he was released ahead of the 2025 season retention deadline. At LSG, Pant will collaborate with head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan, aiming to improve on the team’s performance after a disappointing seventh-place finish in IPL 2024.
