Cameron Bancroft and Daniel Sams were hospitalized following a serious collision during a Big Bash League (BBL) match between the Sydney Thunder and Perth Scorchers. The incident occurred in the 16th over of the Scorchers’ innings when both players attempted to catch a high ball hit by Cooper Connolly. Sams was running in from the infield while Bancroft approached from the outfield, resulting in a head-on collision that left both players momentarily motionless on the ground.
Medical staff quickly attended to them, and play was halted for approximately 20 minutes. Bancroft managed to walk off the field with assistance, though he had sustained a bloody nose, while Sams appeared to be more seriously injured and was taken off on a stretcher. Both players were later confirmed to have suffered concussions, and there are concerns regarding possible fractures.
The Thunder announced that both players were conscious and talking before being transported to the hospital for further evaluation. They have since been substituted in the match by Ollie Davies and Hugh Weibgen.
