The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is implementing new guidelines for the Indian cricket team, primarily aimed at enhancing focus and discipline following recent disappointing performances. These changes have emerged after the team’s struggles in international competitions, including a 3-1 defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and a 3-0 home whitewash by New Zealand.
Key Changes in BCCI Guidelines
-
Family visit Restrictions:
Wives and family members will only be allowed to stay with players for a maximum of 14 days during tours lasting 45 days or longer. For shorter tours, this limit will be reduced to 7 days.
This decision reintroduces pre-COVID rules, reflecting concerns that extended family presence may negatively impact player performance
-
Travel Regulations:
All players are now required to travel together on team buses, eliminating previous allowances for individual travel. This measure aims to foster greater team unity and cohesion.
-
Luggage Policies:
Players will be responsible for any additional luggage costs exceeding 150 kg, shifting the financial burden from the BCCI to the players themselves.
-
Pay Structure Overhaul:
The BCCI is considering a corporate-style appraisal system where player salaries will be linked to individual performance. This could involve pay cuts for underperformance.
-
Support Staff Regulations:
Contracts for support staff will be limited to a maximum of three years, addressing criticism regarding coaching effectiveness following recent losses.
