South African right-arm fast bowler, Anrich Nortje is part of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. He missed the first game against Punjab Kings but played the next four games for Delhi Capitals. In this article, we will explain why Anrich Nortje is struggling to bowl the final over.
Anrich Nortje is one of the fastest bowlers in World cricket. He can consistently bowl above 150+ in his spell. Nortje was a great asset for Delhi in the past few seasons. He missed the 2023 season because of an injury. Nortje came to Delhi’s camp after missing the first game against Punjab. He has not looked clinical since his return. He is struggling to hit that speed that makes him special.
He is also struggling to take wickets and in all four matches he played he leaked many runs. His economy also does not suit his status. Out of all the overs he bowled, he conceded the highest number of runs in the last over of the innings. In all four matches, captain Rishabh Pant gave Nortje the last over to bowl. - In the second match against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, Nortje came to bowl the last over to Riyan Parag. Rajasthan star Riyan Parag scored 25 runs in the last over of Nortje snatching the momentum from Delhi Capitals.
- In the third match against Chennai at Visakhapatnam it was MS Dhoni who scored 20 runs off the last over of Anrich Nortje. Although Delhi Capitals won that match.
- In the fourth match against Kolkata Knight Riders, it was a left-handed middle-order batsman Rinku Singh who made 25 runs off Nortje’s over taking them to a total of 272.
- Things went out of hand when Nortje conceded 32 runs against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd produced absolute carnage against Nortje.
