The 25-year-old Salva Marjan joined the Formula 1 Racing Academy as the first female student from India. Let’s examine Salva’s background and how she accomplished this in Formula One racing.

Salva Marjan, an F1 racer from Perambra, Kerala, is 25 years old. She is going to be the first Indian woman to enroll in the Formula 1 Academy.

Marjan recently travelled to the United Arab Emirates seeking prospects to train at the Formula One Academy. Since she was little, Marjan has been passionate about auto racing, and Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher have had a big impact on her.

She was raised in a typical Keralan middle-class home in a small town, yet she has much higher aspirations. Due to her financial situation and societal expectations, Marjan’s career was particularly difficult, but her parents never gave up and were always there for her.

Additionally, Marjan talked about how society handled her parents, saying, “They were lectured on how to bring up girls, how girls were not supposed to take up such risks or be so independent. But my parents never differentiated between us based on our gender. Neither did they set any limits for me”

However, my parents never made gender-based distinctions between us. They also didn’t impose any restrictions on me, Salva claimed.

Marjan acknowledged that living in the United Arab Emirates put a strain on her mental health and that she had to keep her distance from her loved ones in order to follow her aspirations.

In 2018, Marjan began her professional career in India by participating in Formula LGB racing. In 2023, she will race in the F4 Indian and F4 UAE Championships.

Salva Marjan’s struggle in Male dominating sport

Because of the physical and mental strain involved, the Formula One racing industry is typically dominated by men. Marjan demonstrated her mental toughness by rising from a small town to achieve the highest achievement.

Thanks to her training in the United Arab Emirates, she is as physically fit as she was when handling extreme pressure in a race car.

Marjan will now encourage young females to participate in Formula 1 and look forward to representing India in the main event.

A recent report claims that a Grand Prix scheduled for 2024 is “seriously threatened” to be replaced as early as next year.

Proposals from other countries to be added to the calendar in the upcoming seasons are being actively discussed by the FIA.

Rwanda made a ‘serious’ bid to host an F1 Grand Prix on a new permanent track, according to information that Motorsport.com disclosed earlier this month.

Leading motorsport representatives from the nation are rumoured to have discussed with the FIA during the Monaco Grand Prix and plan to do so again in September. Since the 1993 South African Grand Prix, Formula One has not competed in an African race.

How many countries have made the bid?

According to BBC Sport’s Andrew Benson, Thailand is currently ‘under serious consideration’ to host a Grand Prix.

Despite having an active F1 driver in Alex Albon, the Southeast Asian nation has never hosted a Grand Prix. Born in London to a Thai mother, Albon decided to race Formula One for his country.

South Korea is the other nation that is eager to be included in the calendar.

Due to contractual and financial difficulties, the Korean Grand Prix, which had been hosted at the Yeongnam International Circuit from 2010 to 2013, was terminated.

Benson asserts that the well-liked Canadian Grand Prix, hosted in Montreal, is an unexpected contender to be completely removed from the schedule.

He writes: “Canada is under serious threat even for next year because the organisation is considered to have fallen below standards in recent years, and Montreal is under pressure to improve that.”

Since 1967, the Canadian Grand Prix has been a part of the Formula One World Championship; however, it was absent in 1975, 1984, and 2009.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused it to be cancelled in 2020 and 2021 as well, but other than that, it has always been scheduled.

It has been held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve since 1978, and was renamed in 1982 after the Ferrari driver died in a qualifying crash in Zolder earlier that year.

Although it has long been a favourite location for F1 spectators, drivers, and influential people, it has recently come under increasing scrutiny.

Every four years, some of the most popular sports in the world come together for the Olympics to compete for more than two weeks, but one sport is always excluded.

Olympic sports like swimming, diving, gymnastics, cycling, and athletics are mainstays, and spectators have reacted favourably to recent additions like skateboarding and BMX riding.

Since 1900, football has been a part of the Olympic schedule; women’s football has participated in every tournament since 1996. The 2028 schedule also includes rugby, tennis, golf, and cricket.

However, one event that has never been represented in the Olympics is motorsport, namely Formula One.

Compared to other Olympic sports, Formula One would be more difficult to defend as an Olympic event because of the cars’ competitive disparities and the impossibility of having 20 cars with stock parts.

However, there is a precise reason why motorsports are prohibited from the Games that was previously stated in the Olympic charter.

It read: “Sports, disciplines or events in which performance depends essentially on mechanical propulsion are not acceptable.”

Motor Sports History At The Olympics

The provision was abolished in recent years, but it is still stated in the Charter as provision 47.4.2.

The FIA, which oversees Formula One, was recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2012. Electric karting was included as a demonstration sport this year at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.

The electric karting event’s goal was to advance it towards inclusion in the Paris 2024 program. But in the end, that turned out not to be the case.

There was a motor racing competition at the Paris Olympics in 1900.

Manufacturers were named as entrants in the events, which were mostly point-to-point races behind Paris and Toulouse.

Since the majority of the results were not made public and the races were never recognized as official by the IOC, information regarding the winners of all 14 races is not accessible. Medals were given to the drivers.

Louis Renault, the creator of Renault, won a race while operating a Renault.

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are two of the F1 drivers who are mostly opposed to the sport’s inclusion in the Olympics.

Verstappen said last month: “It’s too car-related. [Drivers] didn’t grow up in that Olympic environment – I don’t think we belong at the Olympic stage.

“And that’s fine, because we have our own championship which I think is really well received.”

And Fernando Alonso pointed out the car-related issues when he said: “I think it’s quite unlikely because we have the machine with us.

“Even if you try to organise a go-kart race with exactly the same go-karts, it will never be exactly the same, probably.

“It is a very unique sport.”

The Belgian Grand Prix victory of George Russell has been referred to the stewards after post-race examinations revealed his car to be underweight.

At the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday, Russell won his second race of the 2024 season. Lewis Hamilton, a Mercedes colleague, finished in second place.

However, it became clear following Sunday’s race that Russell’s victory was in doubt when it was discovered that his car didn’t weigh the required minimum.

Following the race, the FIA published a brief report stating that car number 63 weighed 798.0 kg, which is the minimum weight mandated by TR Article 4.1.

The car’s fuel was drained and 2.8 litres were taken out after it was weighed.

“The car was not fully drained according to the draining procedure submitted by the team in their legality documents as TR Article 6.5.2 is fulfilled,” the statement added.

“The car was weighed again on the FIA inside and outside scales and the weight was 796.5 kg. The calibration of the outside and inside scales was confirmed and witnessed by the competitor.

“As this is 1.5 kg below the minimum weight requested in TR Article 4.1, which also has to be respected at all times during the Competition, I am referring this matter to the Stewards for their consideration.”

As previously stated, following races, all cars must weigh no more than the minimum allowed.

What did Toto Wolff say about this?

If Russell is disqualified, Hamilton, who seemed to be upset with Mercedes’ two-stop strategy in the cooldown area after Sunday’s outcome, might win the BGP.

Toto Wolff, the principal of the Mercedes team, gave an explanation for their decision to pit the seven-time world champion, including Hamilton’s two-stop strategy.

“I’d like to have two winners today,” he said. “But we had to cover Leclerc and Norris because we would’ve been undercut, so that was the call. George had nothing to lose. We were P5.

“The one-stop and the two-stops were showing P5 so we just kept him out. He was very good. Lewis was very good.

“The strategy played for George, and not for Lewis. I’d like to have two winners today.”

The seventh Grand Prix of the year is being held at the Imola track in Italy this weekend. The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was postponed to the following year because of severe rain that flooded the entire circuit.
