Indian weightlifter Sanket Sargar has started the medal race for India in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham. Sargar won the silver medal in Men’s 55Kg weightlifting category. In this article, we will see a brief story of Sanket Sargar and his journey to the silver medal at CWG 2022.
Sanket Sargar won India’s first medal in Commonwealth Games 2022. He won a silver medal in the men’s 55 kg weightlifting category. Sargar opened the medal tally for India with his silver medal in CWG 2022. Malaysia’s Aniq Kasdam won the gold medal in the same category. Sargar lifted 248 Kg in combined total from both the rounds whereas Kasdam lifted 249 Kg. The competition between both Sanket and Kasdam was worth watching because Sargar lifted 6 Kg more than Kasdam in the snatch round but later on Kasdam lifted 7 Kg more in the Clean and jerk round.
21-year-old Sanket Sargar tried very hard in a clean and jerk round but he lost gold by only 1 kg and in an attempt to do so he also injured himself. But the whole country is celebrating his victory as he did well and brought glory to the nation. Background
Sanket is from Sangli, Maharashtra where his father runs a Paan shop and a food stall. Sanket’s childhood coach Mayur Sinhasane told a lot about his past life and his struggle. He told that Sanket used to wake up early to help his father in the shop because he was very young and unemployed. Sinhasane also talked about how he managed to take out time for his training and gym.
Sinhasane also revealed that it was Sanket’s father’s dream to put him in the weightlifting sport because he wanted his son to win medals. His father was not a wealthy man but he wanted his son to live his dreams and that’s why he used to borrow money to help Sanket in his training.
Sanket has also told that he wants to bring laurels to the nation and happy life for his parents. and it looks like things are working in his favour.
