Paralympic archer, Sheetal Devi is one of the biggest inspirations from India’s Paralympic team this year. She won her first Paralympic medal in the 2024 Paris Paralympics. In this article, we will tell you everything about Sheetal Devi.
Nineteen-year-old Sheetal Devi won her first Paralympic medal in the 2024 Paris Paralympics. She won a bronze medal in a mixed archery event against Italy. Scored tied on 155 for both sides but then it was Sheetal’s shot that was reviewed and given 10 instead of 9 which resulted in India’s victory. Sheetal won the medal with his partner Rakesh Kumar. Both Rakesh and Sheetal failed to win medals in individual events but they did it together in mixed events.
Sheetal Devi was born in 2007 in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. She was born with a condition known as Phocomelia in which a person is born without arms. She is one of the only four players with this condition who is competing in the 2024 Paralympics. It requires great courage to see someone like him without arms competing and winning at the highest level.

She is only 19 years of age, and doctors and coaches find out that she can use her legs in such a good manner that it does not require hands for her to shoot the arrows. Doctors were not in the favour of prosthetics in her case but it is her legs that make her different from others. With only 11 months of training, she participated in the 2022 Asian Para Games in which she won two gold medals. In 2023 she won Best Youth Athlete of the year by the Asian Para Paralympic committee.
