It is very rare to see a rest day in between of a test match. Usually rest days are in between two matches. A very rare happening occurred in a test match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. In this article we will tell you everything about the rest day between New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

New Zealand is on a two test matches tour in Sri Lanka. First test match between the two sides is being played at Galle. Everything was going normal in that match but a very rare phenomena occurred which grabbed everyone’s attention. A test match in cricket lasts for 5 days but the first test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka is going to continue for 6 days because of a rest day in between. For the first three days game proceeded smoothly but 4th day of the match was shifted a day after.

Match started on 18th September and first three days both Sri Lanka and New Zealand completed their first innings. And Sri Lanka was having a lead of 202 runs. Day 4 of the match which was supposed to come on 21st September is now shifted to 22nd September because of the rest day. It is because of the presidential elections in Sri Lanka on 21st September.

Rest days are very rare in cricket, although they are now something new as Rest Days are in cricket since 1990. Most recent incident of the rest days was in 2008 when a rest day was taken in test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka which was playing in Bangladesh.
