After leaving fans perplexed, Mohamed Salah has now explained the significance of his unique goal celebration.

Given that Mo Salah is not in the last year of his contract, his future at Liverpool is far from assured.

Since there hasn’t been any progress towards a new contract, the 32-year-old will depart Anfield next summer on a free transfer.

Al Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League made a massive £150 million offer for Salah last summer, but Liverpool turned it down right away.

When asked about his future this week, Salah told Sky Sports News: “Before the season, I was just like, ‘I’ve got one year left so let’s just enjoy it and don’t think about the contract now’.

“I don’t think about anything and I really just enjoy it. I don’t want to think about next year. I don’t want to think about the future, just ‘OK, let’s enjoy the last year [of my contract] and we’ll see’.

“The most important thing is to take one day at a time and just be grateful to be here.”

Meaning behind Salah’s new goal celebration

Salah will not let rumours divert him from his game. He has started the 2024–25 Premier League season well. This season, Liverpool has won both of its games with the attacker scoring—2-0 victories against Brentford and Ipswich Town.

Following his goals, Salah executed a brand-new archery celebration. Salah has now given a detailed explanation of the celebration, answering fans’ questions.

“I think I was watching the UFC, Pereira against Israel Adesanya. And when he won the second fight against Pereira he celebrated like that,” Salah told Men in Blazers.

“I like the celebration, that’s why I did it. I am a UFC fan, but people also take it as our Egyptian pharaohs used to do it when they draw something in a temple or just in the pyramids or somewhere.”

Adesanya performed the archery celebration after he knocked out Pereira in their second fight on April 8th, 2023.
