Ilkay Gundogan wants to leave Barcelona as two new clubs mark their eyes on him

It has been reported that Ilkay Gundogan has ‘requested to leave Barcelona’ before to the summer transfer market closing.

Gundogan left Manchester City for Barcelona last summer on a free transfer. signing a two-year contract. He had a debut season at his new club, making 51 appearances in all competitions.

However, the German has entered the last year of his current deal and wants to depart Camp Nou. Hansi Flick is ‘already up to date with his wish to depart,’ according to Spanish publication SPORT.

According to the source, two clubs are leading the hunt for Gundogan’s autograph.

Galatasaray has shown interest in signing the midfield player, with club president Dursun Ozbek personally desiring to do so.

They will have to contend with opposition from their fiercest adversaries, Fenerbahce, under Jose Mourinho, who is also monitoring Gundogan’s condition.

They’ve promised to “do everything in their power to close the deal, if the operation is feasible.” However, Fenerbahce’s inability to advance to the Champions League may ruin any transfer plans.

Moving to Turkey, though, would be a suitable transition, given that Gundogan’s parents are Turkish.

Saudi Arabian clubs are also keeping an eye on the 33-year-old’s circumstances at Barcelona.

Ilkay Gundogan’s career

Gundogan had an illustrious career at the Etihad before joining the Spanish powerhouses.

He won five Premier League titles during his seven trophy-filled seasons in England, in addition to the Champions League during Man City’s treble-winning season.

Even though Gundogan won three major trophies in the 2022–2023 season, Pep Guardiola regrets his decision to leave the team.
