Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid competes with two Premier League teams to sign Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez.

Alvarez joined Pep Guardiola’s team in 2022, coming from Argentine powerhouse River Plate, for a reported £14 million.

In his first season at the Etihad Stadium, the 24-year-old achieved the Triple Crown as City won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.

As the trophies kept coming in, Alvarez won the Premier League this season once more in addition to the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

Because of Erling Haaland, Alvarez hasn’t always been Guardiola’s first-choice striker during his time at City, even though he has started often for the Etihad Stadium team elsewhere in the final third.

The Argentina international has scored 36 goals in 103 games for City in all competitions. He was a member of the team that won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as well as the 2024 Copa America.

Alvarez signed a long-term deal with City that would end in the summer of 2028, assuring Guardiola’s team that they can demand a hefty price for the attacker should any bids for his services come through.

Alvarez is currently competing for Argentina at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, although he is reportedly being targeted by several teams, including two Premier League teams.

The World Cup winner is being considered by Atletico Madrid as a potential replacement for Alvaro Morata, who transferred to AC Milan, according to Team Talk.

Alvarez has also been linked to Chelsea under new manager Enzo Maresca, but Arsenal has suddenly surfaced as another English top-division team interested in Alvarez.

In recent years, Mikel Arteta’s team has a history of bringing City stars to North London; in the summer of 2022, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus were signed for, respectively, £30 million and £45 million.

When the transfer window shuts, it’s unclear where Alvarez will be playing, but if he leaves City, the attacker would be a great addition to any team in the world of football.
