In a brief interview with Argentine sports daily Ole, La Liga president Javier Tebas disclosed the terms of Kylian Mbappe’s contract and confirmed the player’s summer transfer to Real Madrid.
Mbappe officially acknowledged this week that he will be leaving Paris Saint-Germain on June 30, the date of his contract expiration.
Although the Frenchman hasn’t disclosed his next destination, Real Madrid is most likely it.
He made a hint about this on Monday when he said his next move would be “super exciting” when accepting the Ligue 1 Player of the Season award.
“Now I’m turning a page in my life. Everything that’s coming now is super exciting, but that’s another topic,” said Mbappe.
“Thank you all, I’m going to miss you. I have always tried to live up to it and I also want to thank my family who have always been with me in good times and bad. My father, who is here, I know that it was very important for him that I made history in Ligue 1 before I left and I think that with humility I have done everything you wanted,” he added.
Tebas announces Kylian Mbappe move
Nonetheless, Tebas announced the change in a brief interview with Ole on Tuesday as he was getting ready to speak at the Sportel sports broadcasting event in Argentina.
When asked if Mbappe’s championship arrival would help, Tebas replied that the 25-year-old will play for Real Madrid the next year.
“He is one of the best players in the world. But hey, there are also Vinicius and Bellingham. Madrid are going to have a great squad. Of course, that doesn’t guarantee winning championships,” Tebas added.
Whatever the case, it is obvious that Mbappe’s chances of winning the Champions League, at last, will be enhanced at the Bernabeu.
All because Los Blancos are the competition’s record winners and, should they defeat Borussia Dortmund in a Wembley final on June 1, are on the verge of winning an unprecedented 15th championship.
Tebas said, “Man, if you’ve been signed to a five-year contract, you’ve got five seasons of opportunity,” which further confirmed Mbappe’s apparent length of commitment to Real Madrid.
Tebas said that an epic spirit “happens season after season” and that it “is something that you could say is within Real Madrid” in reference to the championship game.
“Sometimes it doesn’t get it all. But most of the time it wins. This marks the validity of La Liga, doesn’t it?,” Tebas pondered.
